Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Quran Competition Sees Record Participation

The 26th Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Holy Quran Competition has commenced its final preliminary round in Dubai, attracting over 1,660 participants from 55 nationalities. The event, which runs until October 23rd, underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering Islamic values and community engagement on a global scale.

The Dubai International Holy Quran Award has officially launched the final preliminary round of the 26th edition of the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Holy Quran Competition. Held at the Award’s headquarters in Dubai, the event will continue until October 23rd, featuring a distinguished group of male and female Quran memorizers from across the United Arab Emirates.

The competition has seen a significant turnout, with more than 1,660 individuals registering to participate. Following the initial screening, 1,514 contestants—793 males and 721 females—met the eligibility criteria to advance. This year’s participants represent 55 different nationalities, with Emiratis forming the largest contingent at 1,028 contestants. Other nationalities include Egypt, India, Pakistan, and Syria, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the UAE.

Ibrahim Jassim Al Mansoori, Acting Director of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, commented on the high level of engagement:

“This year’s edition of the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Competition has seen unprecedented participation, highlighting the esteemed place the competition holds in the hearts of the community. It also reflects the widespread eagerness across age groups to engage in Quranic events supported by Her Highness, may Allah protect her.”

Al Mansoori also noted that the evaluation process has been enhanced with technological tools to assess memorization and performance in real time, ensuring fairness and transparency.

The competition aims to motivate both nationals and residents to improve their proficiency in Quran memorization, recitation, and Tajweed. Its success reinforces Dubai’s position as a global centre for Islamic culture and sciences, similar to how other major events like the Global Village’s 30th season celebrate multiculturalism.

The large number of resident participants also highlights the deep community ties fostered in the UAE, where long-term residency schemes like the UAE Golden Visa encourage cultural integration.

The initiative is a testament to the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum in supporting Quranic projects that advance a spiritual mission and solidify Dubai’s leading role in serving the Holy Quran.
