Hunter's Supermoon Dazzles Dubai: Astronomy Group Hosts Spectacular Viewing Event

Dozens of UAE residents gathered at Al Awir Second Park on Tuesday evening to witness the spectacular Hunter’s Supermoon, participating in a special viewing session organized by the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG). The event offered residents a rare opportunity to observe the lunar phenomenon through professional telescopes and expert guidance.

The Hunter’s Supermoon, the first of 2025, captivated astronomy enthusiasts in Dubai with its remarkable celestial display. This unique lunar event occurs when the full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, resulting in a larger and brighter appearance in the night sky.

The Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG) hosted the viewing session at Al Awir Second Park, beginning at 7pm. The event featured several engaging activities for participants, including:

  • An informative talk about the Hunter’s Supermoon
  • A comprehensive Q&A session with astronomy experts
  • Telescope observations of the moon’s detailed surface
  • Guided phone photography opportunities

Khadijah Hasan Ahmed, Operations Manager at DAG, shared her excitement, stating, “The Supermoon looks incredible. We have a good turnout. People are enjoying.”

The term “Hunter’s Moon” traditionally refers to the full moon following the Harvest Moon, historically providing hunters with additional light to track prey as winter approached. This year’s event comes just a month after the rare Blood Moon total lunar eclipse that similarly captivated UAE skywatchers on September 7.

The Supermoon not only offered a stunning visual spectacle but also provided residents with an educational opportunity to learn more about astronomical phenomena and engage directly with local astronomy experts.
