Dubai International Airport (DXB) is set to reach a remarkable milestone of 100 million passengers annually by 2027, with airport chief executive Paul Griffiths revealing ambitious growth projections for the world’s busiest international airport.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is on track to achieve an impressive passenger volume of over 100 million by 2027, according to airport chief executive Paul Griffiths. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the upcoming Dubai Airshow, Griffiths outlined a robust growth strategy for the airport.
Key projections include:
The airport’s ambitious expansion plans include a significant transition of operations to Al Maktoum International Airport by 2032. At that point, the new airport is expected to accommodate approximately 124 million passengers annually.
Despite recent geopolitical challenges, DXB has demonstrated remarkable resilience. In the first half of 2025, the airport handled 46 million passengers across 222,000 flights, representing a 2.3% annual increase.
Al Maktoum International Airport’s development is a crucial part of Dubai’s aviation strategy. With construction already underway at a cost of Dh128 billion ($34.8 billion), the new airport is set to have “the world’s largest capacity”, potentially reaching up to 260 million passengers, as previously stated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
Griffiths confirmed that construction work is ongoing, with final designs currently being prepared for this transformative project.
