UAE Golf Courses Review

The UAE has built numerous golf courses, five of which are world-class 18-hole green fields. Dubai Emirate is a pioneer of golf in the Middle East. The Dubai Desert Classic Golf Championship, which has been held since 1989 on the golf courses of the «Emirates» Club, became a shining event of sports life in Dubai.

Features of Golf in the UAE

All golf clubs in the Emirates have a dress code: the course needs to come out in uniform – shirts with collar and sleeves (“polo”), trousers or long shorts. Jeans, T-shirts, gym shorts, and training suits are not allowed.

Since 1998, the fields no longer use metal coasters under balls and no one is allowed to enter the game in shoes with metal studs. If you have forgotten or did not know about it, do not worry – in most clubs in the Emirates you will be replaced with spikes (free of charge).

If the club management does not like your player card, you may be asked to take a small test – to hit the ball a few times. You will also have to answer a few questions about the rules of the game and etiquette.

If you don’t play, you can’t play.

The opportunity to play golf in Emirates clubs should be ordered as early as possible, especially between October and March.

All the main golf courses have modern club buildings with a wide range of services, including a variety of shops and restaurants. Golf course stores hold monthly sales of golf equipment, clothes and shoes with high discounts (up to 50%).

UAE Golf Season

In the UAE you can play golf all year round. The most popular time is from October to March.

Emirates Golf Club

Emirates Golf Club: Emirates Golf Course | Dubai Golf

The Golf Club is located outside Dubai. It is a man-made oasis with the first grass covering in the Middle East, recognized as a «field 1» by European PGA-Tour players who participated in the Dubai Desert Classic draw.

The stunning 5,500 sq.m golf club, whose architecture imitates the Bedouin tents, has already become widely known among golfers from around the world.

The “Majlis” field is suitable for both professionals and experienced amateurs. It has 18 holes, a length of 7,100 yards and 72 pairs. The landscape is decorated by six lakes, which form interference before the nine holes.

The second field of “Wadi” is with 18 holes. It is dominated by water interference and treacherous sand traps – “bunkers” capable of testing the most experienced players.

Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

A world-class golf course. The main element of the sports complex is the club building with berths on 115 yachts.

The club is located in Deir, close to the city centre and the international airport. As with the golf club “Emirates”, the course meets the standards of world championships. The field – 18 holes, length 6,956 yards, steam 72 – is of interest to both professionals and amateurs.

Dubai Country Club

Those who seek diversity can try playing on the sand. The Dubai Country Club has the oldest golf course in the Emirate, which was opened in 1971.

It is not only the oldest, but also the most exotic club, where instead of “greens” “brown” (brown lawns). Players carry a small piece of artificial turf that they use in Fae Way strikes. The club has a field of both 18 and 9 holes.

Nad al-Sheba Club

This club is a 10-minute drive from downtown Dubai inside the Nad al-Sheba racetrack and has the only fully lit 18-hole professional field in the Middle East that allows playing at night.

It is an interesting field with 8 lakes and 110 bunkers designed in the Scottish style. The field of 71 pairs is 6260 yards long, focusing on the accuracy of the game rather than the length of the impact. The first 9 holes are located inside the running circle. The other nine holes are outside the treadmill. There is also a large training field – driving range, as well as areas to work out a patch and chip.

Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club

It is located in the Samnan area, just 20 minutes away from Dubai, 5 minutes away from Ajman and 1.5 hours from Abu Dhabi. It is located in Dubai.

The club has an 18-hole golf course, as well as a gymnasium, swimming pool, tennis courts and squash, rugby, football and grass hockey.

Al Ghazal Golf Club

The golf club is only 500 metres from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The Airport Golf Club was established by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Civil Aviation Department. Upon the decision of Sheikh Hamdan, the golf club provides additional services to those at the international airport of the capital.

The 18-hole level 71, with an area of 6,450 yards, is set in the sand and offers a very exciting round of golf. «Green coating», specially imported and laid on oiled sand, creates a surprisingly plausible landscape.

The nearest nine holes, level 35, are located at the site where the archaeological excavations were conducted and follow the contours of the Abu Dhabi coastline. The far nine holes are sealed off from the sea and have a level of 36.

Abu Dhabi Golf & Equestrian Club

It is located in the centre of Abu Dhabi, on the site of a former golf course opened by amateurs from Britain in 1960.

The golf course has nine green holes which have some flooded spaces. The total area of the course is 6543 yards.
