Disney's First Middle East Theme Park: Disneyland Abu Dhabi on Yas Island

Disney fans and travel enthusiasts have a spectacular new destination to anticipate as the company prepares to unveil its first Middle Eastern theme park on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Announced in May 2025, the project represents a landmark moment for regional tourism and entertainment.

The upcoming Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be strategically located just 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi and approximately 50 minutes from Dubai, making it easily accessible for both local and international visitors. Similar to other major development projects in the UAE, this theme park promises to be a transformative addition to the region’s landscape.

What sets this Disney park apart is its commitment to being “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati”. Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the park will blend Disney’s legendary storytelling with UAE’s rich cultural heritage and modern design sensibilities.

Unique Design Features

In a world-first for Disney theme parks, the signature castle will incorporate water into its design, inspired by Abu Dhabi’s island setting. Zach Riddley from Walt Disney Imagineering revealed that the waterfront location influenced this innovative architectural approach.

The Miral Group, known for developing Yas Island’s existing attractions like Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld, will be responsible for constructing the park. Disney will provide creative oversight to ensure a world-class guest experience.

Opening Timeline

While an exact opening date remains unconfirmed, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro suggests that projects of this scale typically require one to two years of design and four to six years of construction. Consequently, visitors can expect Disneyland Abu Dhabi to welcome its first guests around 2032 or 2033.

The park is anticipated to attract millions of tourists from the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia, and Europe, further solidifying the UAE’s position as a global tourism destination.
